Hi everyone!

Today we’ll introduce some of the commonly used expressions when greeting someone.
“Hello” and “Hi” are the most popular greetings to use in an informal or casual situation.

It is generally followed by a person’s name.

 

For example,“ Hello/ Hi, Chris. Good to see you!”
“Nice to meet you” or “Pleased to meet you” is always used when meeting someone for the first time.

 どちらとも初めて会った時に使う挨拶


“How are you doing” is another way of saying “How are you?” You can answer by saying “I`m doing well.” or follow your answer by asking, “And you?”

 How are you?の別の言い回し


“How have you been” is asked by people who have already met.

This is asked when someone wanted to know if you’ve been fine or what you are up to since the last time you spoke to each other.

 すでに会ったことがある相手に対しての挨拶


“It’s great to see you” is casually used among friends, family members or co-workers that you haven’t seen in a while.

You might use this greeting with a handshake or a hug depending on your relationship to the person.

 友人や家族、同僚などとカジュアルに使う挨拶


“It’s been a while” or “Long time no see” is used when you haven’t seen each other in a long time, especially if you meet the person unexpectedly.

 久しぶりに会う相手に対しての挨拶
